An Unforgettable Honor: Photographing Padres Pitcher’s Newborn Baby

Some sessions leave a lasting mark on your heart — and this was one of them.

I recently had the honor of photographing the newborn daughter of our San Diego Padres pitcher Yuki Matsui and his wonderful wife, Anna. From the moment I stepped into their home, I could feel the love and joy surrounding their growing family.

Their baby girl stayed unbelievably calm and sweet — a total dream to photograph. I smiled nonstop behind the camera. Every moment felt soft, peaceful, and full of love.

This session meant so much to me. Yuki and Anna didn’t just hire me — they welcomed me into a very special chapter of their lives. I’ve worked with many amazing families over the years, but this one truly stood out. As a result, I felt incredibly grateful. And when some of the photos appeared on Yahoo! Japan, it became a surreal and humbling milestone in my photography journey.

What made this session even smoother? I brought everything we needed for a relaxed setup right in their living room. They didn’t have to prepare anything. I brought wraps, delicate outfits, headbands, and more. In fact, we didn’t need much space — just soft light and a quiet spot. That’s the beauty of in-home newborn photography.
